Very Large 1960s Glass and Steel Chandelier by Seguso Vetri D’Arte

This large, majestic chandelier comes with a story.
It was designed in the mid 1960s and custom made by Seguso Vetri D’Arte, on special commission in 1970 for the Hilton Hotel.
All the glass elements, including the large terminating sphere, were made in a special signature technique of Seguso, called ” Balloton”. A surface technique; where the glass is blown into a mold of cross ribbing, creating a raised diamond pattern . (Seguso, was a bigger company than Venini, and could produce such big commissions).

Four of these large chandeliers in total lit up the ballroom in the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s. According to a employee that is still working at the Hilton “They have seen many seminars, fashion shows and many many partys”
With the renovation of the Hilton, they were sold to Rotterdam Trading Office. We were lucky to win these chandeliers in an auction and we decided to completely restore the chandeliers to its best. We have restored one item, completely repainted, and rewired. We can restore one more on request and with patience!

Top frame approx. 80kgs
Second frame approx. 40kgs

The frame weights are estimated, but the glass is accurate.
Electrics:
58 x 20 watt led lights, giving a brightness of 150watt. These lights can change to give a desired light affect. The lights are on three circuits, controlled by three 650-watt dimmers, allowing for multiple lighting combinations. In the present configuration the power consumption is 1160 watts, providing 8700 watts of light.
Restauration:
The steel frame was coated with rust prevention coat, undercoat and two topcoats of matt crème white.
All wiring was replaced, and the original fittings were renovated. The mountings were changed to facilitate the use of the slightly larger led lamps. Every piece of glass was cleaned and inspected. All glass on the lamp is complete and original.
